How do I apply for the Practical Examination in 2017?
Eligible candidates should apply for the Practical Examination during the relevant booking period. Please see the Practical Examination page for more information about eligibility and the Examination Dates page for booking periods.
In 2017 there will be three examination sessions in April, June/July and November (see Examination Dates page for more information). Over 800 seats will be available in 2017.
Applications for 2017 seats can only be made by submitting a Practical Examination Application Form during an application period. The Candidate Portal will not be used for booking Practical Examinations places in 2017.
There will be tow application periods for 2017 places (August 2016 and February 2017). Eligible candidates may submit an appliction for any examination session during either booking period. You may nominate your preferred examination session on the application form, however sessions and examination venues will be allocated by the ADC.
Have you had three or more unsuccessful attempts at the ADC Practical Examinations?
For 2016 and 2017 a limited number of places are reserved at each examination session (two per examination venue) for candidates who have previously had three or more unsuccessful attempts at the Practical Examination.
For each examination session, all applications received from candidates with three or more unsuccessful attempts will be put into a draw and candidates will be randomly selected by an independent person for the reserved places.
You will be notified via email whether or not you have been successful in the draw.
Dental Hygienists/Dental Therapists
The Dental Hygiene/Dental Therapy Practical Examinations are conducted alongside the Dentist Practical Examinations. Four seats are available at one venue during each examination session.
Eligible candidates may apply for the Practical Examination at any time throughout the year by submitting an Application for Practical Examination Dental Hygiene/Dental Therapy form. Please see the Practical Examination page for more information about eligiblity and the Examination Dates page for venues.
As places are limited, complete applications will be allocated seats on a first come-first served basis. A complete application is one in which all the information requested is correctly supplied and payment provided.
Please note that examination sessions cannot be changed. Inability to attend a booked examination will be considered a withdrawal. Please note that withdrawing from an examination incurs a financial penalty.
