General registration for International Qualified Health Professionals

The Independent review of Australia’s regulatory setting for overseas health practitioners (the Kruk review) recommended ways to increase the number of health practitioners working in Australia. One area of focus was streamlining registration pathways for international qualified health professionals (IQHPs), which has been the focus of the recent consultation. The draft registration standard proposes three faster registration pathways that offer alternative ways for dental IQHPs to register based on their professional skills and experience.

The ADC provided feedback to this consultation, noting that while we support removing unnecessary barriers to registration, any new registration pathways must preserve rigorous, evidence-based assessment of qualifications and experience, safeguard the integrity of the registration process, and ensure patient safety.
