The 2018 Interim practical examination handbook for dentists is now available. You can view the handbook here

We are in the process of developing examination handbooks for other dental professions. These will be available in mid-2018.

In line with the handbook’s release, we would like to take the opportunity to update you on some of the changes being made to the practical examination which will take place from July 2018.

ADC examination and administration centre

In mid-April 2018, the ADC will move into its new ADC examination and administration centre at Level 6, 469 La Trobe Street, Melbourne.

The purpose built, state-of-the-art centre, has been designed to provide you with a more comfortable, highly standardised, practical examination experience.

Some features of the centre include:

  • a high quality, clinically realistic, simulation clinic
  • four fully functional dental treatment rooms
  • provision of all the required examination materials and equipment
  • dedicated ADC staff onsite to provide support through the practical examination process
  • improved practical examination capacity, with examinations held twice weekly during standard business hours
  • a custom built candidate lounge, with kitchen facilities, providing a comfortable space during examination breaks.

Changes to the practical examination format

In conjunction with the relocation to the examination and administration centre, we are working on revising the delivery of the practical examination from the new premises.

Focusing on providing you more with opportunities to demonstrate your professional skills and abilities, the revised practical examination further aligns with the Entry-level competencies of the newly qualified dentist and incorporates best practice in high-stakes assessments. You can view the competencies here

The interim handbook provides you with more detail on the new practical examination format. The final handbook for dentists, available from mid-2018, will be a definitive guide to the ADC practical examination.

Handbooks for other dental professions are in development and will be available later this year.

The ADC is committed to keeping you informed of the changes happening to the assessment process. We will email you as more information becomes available and recommend you visit our website adc.org.au for the latest information.

The ADC would like to thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to deliver our new practical examination process.
