Accreditation monitoring and material change

To meet the requirements of the National Law, the ADC monitors accredited programs through a variety of monitoring activities, to ensure that programs continue to meet the Accreditation Standards. The most commonly used monitoring tools and activities are outlined in the ADC Monitoring Framework and ADC accreditation guidelines for dental practitioner programs. Examples of the most common monitoring activities include:

• Annual reports
• Self reporting
• Desktop review
• Site visits
• Concerns about programs policy
• External validation

Self-reporting is one mechanism the ADC uses for program monitoring. Education providers must notify the ADC in writing of material changes to an accredited program relevant to the Accreditation Standards.

This may include changes to the curriculum, staffing, clinical exposure for students, student support, leadership or governance, or other resources.

The ADC expects to be informed of proposed material changes at least 12 months before they are introduced, so we can start a review process.

The Accreditation Committee will determine whether the self-report constitutes a material change, and if it requires reassessment of the program’s accreditation status. Re-assessment may involve a desktop evaluation, online meetings or a site visit by an Accreditation Team.
