Accreditation Standards Review

In late 2024, the Australian Dental Council (ADC)/Dental Council (New Zealand) (DC(NZ)) began a review into Accreditation Standards (‘the Standards’).

The objective of the review is to identify and consider changes to the Standards. The ADC, Dental Board of Australia and DC(NZ) have affirmed that the Standards must remain applicable in both Australia and New Zealand to facilitate the Trans-Tasman Mutal Recognition Act 1997. This Act recognises Australia and New Zealand registration standards as equal, and allows registered oral health practitioners to work in either country.

The review will ensure that the Standards continue to be up to date with benchmarks and expectations, are easy-to-apply, and focus on public safety. In November last year, staff from the ADC and DC(NZ) formed a project team to discuss priority areas for the review. We’ve also formed a steering committee to oversee the review and guide the project team’s future activities.
