Update on ADC and Greenfleet partnership

In collaboration with Greenfleet, we are excited to share an update on the progress of our reforestation efforts at Ledcourt. In celebration of the ADC’s 30th anniversary, our organisation planted a hectare of native biodiverse forest earlier this year. In late July, the Greenfleet team revisited the site to plant an additional 1,000 trees, reinforcing the vegetation from last year’s planting.

Although the forest is still in its early stages, we are thrilled to see the early signs of growth and eagerly anticipate the continued development of this vital green space. This ongoing partnership underscores our commitment to environmental sustainability and leaving a positive legacy for future generations.

Greenfleet sent us this message about the land:

The Wimmera Bioregion is host to many native wildlife species. The site at Ledcourt adjoins the Grampians National Park and the Mount William Creek, which is home to platypus, wallabies, echidnas and emus. The tree species planted in 2024 will provide potential habitat for Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos and Greater Gliders (which are classified as endangered). Species like the gliders rely on tree hollows that form in older eucalypts, which is why it is so important that Greenfleet legally protects the forest for 100 years.

While koala populations can occur in the Grampians themselves, there have not been any near Ledcourt for many years. This is due to land clearing and a reduction in their habitat and food trees. One of the canopy species Greenfleet has planted at Ledcourt is River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis); a preferred food source for these beloved animals in Victoria. In time, this planting may be able to provide potential habitat for our koalas.
